Capital Region Inaugural Mission 10.3.23
Under beautiful fall weather and sunny skies, 21 senior war Veterans traveled on our inaugural mission by bus to DC for their Day of Honor. We honored 4 WWII Veterans, four Korean Veterans and 17 Vietnam Veterans (some who served in multiple wars). Our honored Veterans served in the Army Air Corps, Air Force, Army, Coast Guard and Navy. They were welcomed at every stop by a grateful nation to honor their service and sacrifices.
Thanks to Mission BBQ for sponsoring of our inaugural trip!

Testimonials
This is what our Veterans had to say about their trip:
“I am pre-diabetic and after all the M&Ms and chocolate chip cookies, I expected my blood sugar to be very high the next day. But it wasn’t. So I must have dreamed that I went on the Honor Flight. I think the greatest thing about the trip was the treatment that we got; to make up for the shabby treatment that Vietnam Vets got when they returned home in the 60’s and 70’s. “
-Warren, Vietnam Veteran
“I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking my dad yesterday on the Capital Region Honor Flight. He was like a kid at Christmas! And thanks for letting me serve as his family guardian.”
-James, family guardian
“My guardian, who was active duty Army, was wonderful. She was so caring and knowledgeable. She made me feel like family and really eased my initial apprehensions about going. I am energized and have a great desire to get more involved with my American Legion Post and tell everyone about my trip.”
-Leonard, Vietnam Veteran
“I’ve seen the Memorials in DC many times, but this trip was a great opportunity to meet and visit with other Veterans and exchange military conversations. By the end of the day, “Thank you for your service” had more meaning. It made me feel that the entire USA was saying thank you to me!!!”
-Anonymous
“My expectation was a bus trip to DC. I did not foresee the congeniality, laughter, or surprises in store at each stop! For me, it went from a “bus trip” to an amazing tribute to the Veterans. It was all for us. I’m still bubbling with pride, gratefulness, and amazing memories of the Inaugural Capital Region Honor Flight!”
-Al, WWII Vet
“I thought it would be a good trip – I didn’t realize how good it could be! I felt a renewed sense in how my country feels about Veterans. It made me feel good being a Veteran, and that people and kids really care, not like it was in the 70s.”
-Ron, Vietnam Veteran
“My daughter was my family guardian. She said she was more moved than she expected to be. Being able to share the day with her was wonderful. And the trip made me realize how much people appreciate the service. It made me think back to my time in uniform and remember that I should be proud of it.”
-Arthur, WWII Veteran
With Gratitude
Capital Region could not have provided this wonderful opportunity without the assistance of so many. Please accept our sincere gratitude for the passion and devotion to our Veterans.
