Capital Region Mission 4.25.24
Under unseasonably cool spring weather and sunny skies, 23 senior war Veterans traveled on mission #2 from Calvert County by bus to DC for their Day of Honor. We honored 1 WWII Veteran, four Korean-era Veterans and 18 Vietnam Veterans. Our five female Veterans received a portfolio from the Military Women’s Memorial. Our honored Veterans served in the Air Force, Army, Marines and Navy. They were welcomed at every stop by a grateful nation to honor their service and sacrifices.
Thanks to Mission BBQ for sponsoring our trip!

Testimonials
This is what our Veterans had to say about their trip:
“The camaraderie between the Veterans on the trip was continuously affirmed. There is nothing equal to the camaraderie we experience in the military. The greetings from the community were the antithesis of our arrival in the U.S. after being separated from our families while being in the war zone. If another veteran asked me to tell them about the Capital Region Honor Flight, I would encourage them to go and tell your stories.”
-Ron, Vietnam Veteran
“The outpouring of strangers and my community showing such warm respect for our service was so unexpected but wonderful. I felt humbled and proud of my service. Do not miss your chance to go.”
-Mike, Vietnam Veteran
“At first I was reluctant to go. I was not a combat Vet and didn’t feel I deserved to go. But Mark told me “I had given my time and served and deserved to go.” I did not know what to expect. At each stop, a new memory was made. People came up thanking us for our service. It turned out to be more than I imagined but will be remembered always. I am so glad I went. I have already been talking to other Veterans that it is a trip they need to go on.”
-Bob, Vietnam Veteran
“I felt like Cinderella all day. It was an unexpected pleasure to be so blessed. It was so memorable to see the attitude of so many young people who appreciate the losses to make the world a safer place – by our sacrifices.”
-Frances, WWII Army nurse
“The trip impacted me in a way that I have never felt so honored and loved. The trip is truly a once-in-a-lifetime event.”
-Cheryl, Vietnam Veteran
